"The mass media are characterized by being anti-mediatory, intransitive. They fabricate non-communication - presuming that one is willing to accept the definition of communication as an exchange, as a reciprocal space of question and answer, as a space of responsibility, (...) as a personal correlation produced by a one to one exchange. In other words: presume that one defines communication differently than as a simple transmission/reception of information, even if it be reversible through feed-back. The entire present architecture of the media is founded however on this last definition: the media are that which forever forbids an answer, that which impedes each and every trading process (...) the power belongs to the one who is in a position to give and to whom nothing can be given. (...) here there is speech, but nowhere can it be responded to. Therefore the only possible revolution is in this area (...) in the re-establishment of this possibility of responding. (...) Every attempt to democratize the contents, to infiltrate them (...) or to achieve power over the media is hopeless, - if the monopoly of speech is not broken, and not in order to bestow the right to speech to each individual in turn, but rather so that speech can be exchanged, given and taken, as is sometimes a glance or a smile, and without it being possible to stop, coagulate, store or disseminate them in any other point in the social process."
