Through the use of digital information networks, the important distinction made by western culture between writing and reading, transmitting and receiving, naming/coding and interpreting/decoding collapses. Production, distribution, interpretation, commentary, retrieval of information, happen in a hyper-medial network of open references, navigation, and structuring operations. New paradigms of writing and reading formulate slowly: navigation, interaction, information design, monitor thinking... Although it is important to develop past the reader-level in hyper-texting, in the crossing points and nodes of the network, it is not enough simply to read, to consider, to interpret (and thereby leave the action to the politicians and gene technologists). Interwoven thinking in terms of social, cultural, and technological utopias supports distinct co-operative incursions into complex interwoven systems - be it texts (literature), documents and data, (information systems, epistemes), social structures, or communicative acts.
